Knee surgeries such as ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair, TKR, PCL/MCL repair,
arthroscopy need structured physiotherapy for full functional recovery.
Phase 1: Protection & Pain Relief (0–2 Weeks)
Goals: Reduce swelling, protect repair, regain gentle motion
- Therapy Includes:
- Cryotherapy & limb elevation
- Knee brace and walker training
- Quadriceps activation (Q sets)
- Heel slides
- Straight-leg raises
- Patella mobility
- Wound care guidance
Phase 2: Mobility & Early Strengthening (2–6 Weeks)
Goals: Improve ROM, initiate weight-bearing, boost strength
- Therapy Includes:
- Active & active-assisted ROM
- Stationary cycling
- Closed-chain exercises: mini squats, step-ups
- Hip strengthening (glute med & max)
- Balance training
- Taping for patellar alignment
Phase 3: Strength, Endurance & Functional Training (6–12 Weeks)
Goals: Restore functional muscle strength
- Therapy Includes:
- Leg press, hamstring curls
- Lunges & controlled squats
- Proprioception & single-leg balance
- Stair training
- Soft tissue release of quads & ITB
Phase 4: Return to Sports / Advanced Activity (3–9 Months)
Goals: High-level strength & safe return to sport/work

- Agility training
- Plyometric drills
- Running progression
- Sport-specific strengthening
